Dewey is a pale orange cat from the West Paris TNR community cat colony. He was named for where he was trapped — right by the library. He came in with an unsure gaze and a tender presence. We held him for observation while we worked through some medical concerns. He was gentle and easygoing throughout. Eventually, he was cleared and returned to the West Paris colony. He is doing very well there.
Dewey came to us through the West Paris TNR Program. This program is working to humanely manage the feral and community cat population in the West Paris village area. They do this through trap, neuter, and return. For more on that effort, see the full program post. For statewide context on community cat law in Maine, see the Stray Cat Law in Maine post.
